Walk in memory of Mr David Tuck

Mr Tuck's parents Phil and Maria have asked me to inform all the members that they are organising a walk in memory
of David on Sunday 2nd May 2010.  It is a bank holiday weekend and three days before what would have been Davids 27th birthday.
They are starting from Askham to Arthur'sPike.  It is a walk of approximately 8 miles.
If anyone would like to go please see me for details.
If you want to get a sponsor form yourself please email steve@sis-cumbria.co.uk and tell him it's the David Tuck walk.
If you would just like to make a contribution in memory of David, who helped a lot of the students in the club then pass
it to me and I will pass the total onto the charity

Many Thanks

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Chloe Verrall passed her 1st degree black belt on Sunday April 5th in Coventry.
Over 160 people were grading and it was a very exhausting day for everyone.

Well Done Chloe.

Sad News (Updated)

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Mr David Tuck.
David had been a student at Penrith since 2004.  He was the second person at the club to pass his 1st degree.
He was an excellent student and a good instructor.  He always had time for everyone and over the years has helped
most students in the club one way or another.
His attitude towards training and teaching should be an inspiration to all
He was a well liked and much valued member of the club and will be missed by all the members.

Northwest Regional Championship

The NW Club Championships will be held on Sunday 25th January at Ashton on Mersey High School, Cecil Avenue, Sale M33 5BP.
Its a great opportunity to try a local competition before heading to the GTUK National Competitions.
Last year there was 170 competitors from 20 clubs. Beginners are also very welcome not matter what age or ability.
You will be looked after so that you enjoy your first experience of competition.

Double Success for Penrith students

Penrith Students Oliver Tallis and Joss Yates went to Coventry on Sunday 20th April to take their black belt examination
It was a long day but at the end of it both students passed and walked (or limped) away with their new belts and certificates.
Both Oliver and Joss started Tae Kwon Do in 2004 and have trained hard for this day.
Special mention should be made for Oliver who is the 1st under 12 black belt from the Penrith club.  He scored very good marks in every category.

North West Championship Result

On Sunday 24th February several members of the Penrith Tae Kwon Do school traveled to the David Lloyd sports centre in Manchester to take part in the the GTUK North West England Tae Kwon Do championships.
For most of them it was the first time they had been in a competition and with over 200 competitors from all over northern England it was an exciting day..
Everyone enjoyed themselves and two members came back with trophies.
Bradley Quail had an excellent first competition and won silver in both sparring and patterns and Oliver Tallis won silver in sparring.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and they are all looking forward to the British championships in April and the Scottish championships in May.

On Sunday 11th November, David Tuck, a student of Penrith Tae Kwon Do travelled to Nuneaton in Warwickshire to be tested for his black belt.
David who lives in Penrith, started training in June 2004 has worked hard for 3 years to be ready for the day.
There were 190 students from all over the UK being tested on their physical skills and knowledge.
The testing started at 9:30 in the morning and finished at 5pm.
David did very well on the day and passed, scoring top marks in several categories

Below are pictured Mr Ian Hughes(4th degree), David and Master Roy Oldham(8th degree) the president of Global Tae Kwon Do

Recommended Reading

I have recently discovered a book that I would recommend to all students

Its called "Taekwon-Do Patterns: From Beginner to Black Belt" by Master Jim Hogan

It goes through each pattern from white belt to black tag with full descriptions and colour photographs.

Applications of each technique and tips on movements are included.

It's rrp is £14.99 but you can buy it from Amazon for £10.49 ex postage by clicking on the link below.
