How do I make my stock exhaust sound better?
Method #1 Stock Pipe MODIFICATION instructions....by "Rambler"
1. Bike is cooled down.
2. Get a 1/4 inch drill bit & a 1/2 inch drill bit (metal piercing)
3. Center your drill (1/4 inch) over the heads of the metal rivets, drill on them till
they spin, then
punch whats left thru the little
hole -- do this to all 5 rivets on each muffler.
4. The cap with the 5 rivet holes will POP off.....gentle with a screwdriver..... now both
caps are off.
5. Center punch between each rivet hole carefully. This is the mark where you will
drill the new holes.
6. Between each two rivet holes you will drill a 1\2" hole. When you are
finished, you should have 5
new 1/2 inch holes.
7. With a small grinding stone, smooth out the edges of the drilled holes then paint the
inner pipe
area holes with heat resistant
black paint.
8. Next, put rivets in the old rivet holes --- keep the old caps around if you should want
to reconvert
it to a stock pipe again.
There it is --- also if you want to covert back to stock, merely, remove the rivets ----
seal up the
1/2 holes & re-rivet the caps you saved.
AWESOME sound -- & unique ..... not a Harley Sound.
Method #2 By Arthur R Dodd
Here's how you do it. The object is to remove the 25mm baffle located about midway down
the silencer
from the exhaust opening. This allows the exhaust to go straight through,
being quieted only by the
perforated openings surrounding the center pipe. The easy way to
do this is get a
piece of 1/2 " steel, like re bar, make it into a chisel by beveling and sharpening
the end. It needs to
be about 18 " long. Get out your 2 lb sledge and whack three
holes in the baffle which will almost
completely remove its ability to restrict the
exhaust gasses. You can look down the
exhaust with a flashlight and see the baffle, and how well you removed it. Takes about 15
seconds each side.
