Mad Max Rally 2002
Thanks to Rusty for the write up and Photo
Rode down to Leicester Saturday morning, in glorious sunshine, arriving around
10:30, to be met by
a load of hung over, pale skinned, bloodshot eyed maxers, who’d been partying
all Friday night till
4 in the morning.
This year the Rally was at a new site, the Leicester Jet Ski Centre in Stoney
Stanton, just off the
M69 at Junc. 2. This was much better than last years site, having clean toilets,
all-day breakfast,
excellent BBQ but most importantly good beer.
Exactrep and Raats (that’s the Dutch
company, not plague carrying rodents) had stands showing all
kinds of niceties. I managed to resist parting with large sums of money. The
Fund Manger (my Wife)
was with me anyway.
I took along my Vmax Magnum Force Video from
Uncle Fester with me, to play on the TV & video in
the bar. Just as well coz come time for the rideout, it pissed down. All those
maxes starting up at the
same time, must have disturbed the atmospheric pressure.
When I say all those maxes, 164 to be exact,
of which 34 where from Belgium and 4 from Holland.
All manner of different modifications to be seen, but not a Woody Wood Pecker in
site (with or without stripes).
Best bike, as voted by all that attended,
was a very close contest between Kiwi and Paul Humphreys,
with Paul winning by just 5 points. Paul Roberts and his big f**k-off
Taylormade 250 tyred rear wheel,
took 3rd place. The biggest shock of the night was Rusty Bolts taking
3rd for best polish. Honest no bull.
The evening’s entertainment was a choice of
strippers and disco in the main bar or an excellent band
(Bad to the Bone) outside in a marquee. I just feed the ducks then took the
missus on a romantic walk
around the lake (no goats or sheep to be found).
Next in my calendar is the Belgium Rally, hope to meet up with some of you there.
